Using the Buscher Print Drying Press with Glazing Sheets

Before using a new glazing sheet (foil) for the first time wipe it well with a soft cloth, cotton plug or viscose sponge dipped in thinners to remove any chemical residues from the protective film coating. Take care not to scratch the surface.

Wash the foil in hot soapy water (avoid using detergents) and rinse well.

Rinsing with clear water should be enough before using again and for future sessions.

It is important that a homogeneous waterfilm free of air bubbles exists between the photo and the foil.

The press will take about 5 minutes to reach its working temperature, start with a low temperature and increase with experience; it is better to work at moderate temperatures for a drying time of four to five minutes. There will be no waiting time if the press is used continously.

Wash the foil and leave it wet. Take the print from a dish of water, with just a drop of wetting agent, and roll it down onto the foil - face downwards for a gloss print.

Using the rubber roller or flat rubber-edged squeegee sweep firmly but not too heavily across the print, first in one direction, then in the reverse.

Place the foil onto the convex aluminium heater plate and bring the cloth apron carefully down and clamp it in position.

After 4/5 minutes the print will be dry; with a gloss print a soft crackling can be heard.

Release the bow that holds the cloth apron and swing it back; the prints pop off automatically or can be lifted away with ease.

Any problem at all with this, do not remove the print by force; both print and foil could be damaged - soak off with water.

If matt prints are required the wet prints can be laid with the image side up on a foil or brass plate no longer usable for gloss prints.

Do not place the prints directly on the surface of the press as this will result in wavy prints.

CAUTION: The surface temperature of the dryer is very high - never tough it directly; use only the operating elements (button, frame etc.)
